In the Gemäldegalerie, the Kunstkammer, on the famous staircase or between the up to 6,000-year-old stone statues of the Egyptian and Oriental Collection – almost everywhere in the Kunsthistorisches Museum can suddenly become a venue for singers on this day of the festival. Alongside the posthumous world premiere of a piece by Francis Burt, who was professor of composition at the MDW from 1973 until 1992, eight composition students will provide brand new miniatures written especially for the occasion. Mystic, poetic, as mini-dialogue, almost sculptural or interactive – the pop-up performances will place the 12 singers of the Company of music, as well as the museum’s visitors in surprising situations. The Vienna-based vocal ensemble will be working together for the first time with the Brussels-based choreographer Ula Sickle.
