»›Sinfonie X‹ also means: a ›Tenth Symphony‹, the work which Beethoven, Bruckner and Mahler all attempted, but failed to complete, causing the superstitious Schoenberg to write fearfully: ›It seems that the Ninth is a limit. Anyone who wants to move beyond it must pass away.‹ And just as Mahler’s symphonies ‹created a world‹, so is Schnebel’s ›Sinfonie X‹ almost vegetatively overgrown by the everyday. Before and after the concert, in the hall foyers and corridors, as well as during the intervals, traffic sounds can be heard, sounds of culture and of nature.› Sinfonie X‹ lasts more than two hours, corresponds to the whole world and is just as fragile and vulnerable. The first and second parts have not been performed complete since the world premiere in 1992. Wien Modern and the RSO Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra will give the second performance.« (Christoph Becher)
