»The unusually un-homogenous instrumentation of the ascolta ensemble leads« composer Isabel Mundry to ponder fundamental questions, such as »what is artistic knowledge or ignorance, what makes creative sense and what doesn't?« The artworks contained in the program also skillfully steer clear of homogeneity: an »abstract, poetic picture« by Ukraine-born Anna Korsun (born 1986); the »old dream« by Márton Illés (born in Budapest in 1975); »intensive sound actions inside the piano involving several musicians at a time«, which, with the instrument that the Stuttgart-based ensemble has built itself, becomes an extraordinary study of color per se. Using snippets from the finale of Beethoven's Ninth, the live sound of Al-Jazeera-TV and other items to generate »the impertinence of an intentionally impenetrable layering/interweaving of heterogenous materials« – that bears the unmistakable artistic hallmark of Peter Ablinger, who, not long after the opening concert, is presenting a second brand new piece at the festival. »Gloomy, sad, sentimental, undramatic – but also very beautiful« is how the next world premiere of the evening is conceived. Martin Schüttler, born in Kassel in 1974, together with the boy group set up in 2003, embark on an almost therapeutic search for an emotional zone beyond growth, masculinity, pressure to perform and the patriarchy.
