»The choreography of Danza Permanente comes from a musical composition created in Vienna two centuries ago, String Quartet No 15 op. 132 in A minor by Ludwig van Beethoven, who was nearly deaf when he wrote it. The score is transposed into movement for four dancers. They rigorously embody the written musical structure, behaviors, and dynamics of the string quartet over time, and through space. The dancers behave as sound, in the silence. Danza Permanente examines the fundamental construction of music, how it functions non-linguistically and formally to produce thought, and move emotion in the listener. It borrows these formal functions from music, in order to provoke through dance, that state of thinking and feeling that seems so unique to music. Danza Permanente wonders what experience, perhaps an expressive one, perhaps a meaning-filled one, will be released in its silent manifestation on the stage. The audience is exposed to a different possibility of producing sense and meaning, through a dance that is as joyful and thoughtful as it is abstract and filled with a love for exactitude.« (DD Dorvillier, Zeena Parkins)
