It would be unlikely for an evening dedicated to Mirela Ivičević to consist simply of striking a happy medium. The Vienna-based winner of this year's Erste Bank Composition Prize loves »radical and uncompromising contemporary music« and doesn’t shy away from extremes. »A lot of people are scared of swimming so far out to sea that you can no longer see the bottom. For me, even as a child, that was always the best!« Her preferred «escape route to freedom from references» (here, instead of a link to the usual biography, her Orgy of References only starts to become accessible, the denser it gets. From minimal (Wojtek Blecharz) to maximal (Mirela Ivičević) and back (Rebecca Saunders), the path leads from Lisa Streich’s Schattentanz, Raphaël Cendo’s «saturated sounds», to Milica Djordjević’s extensions and compressions of tine and Klaus Lang’s examination on the disappearance of one world and the formation of another, »concentrated and condensed into a new form: a thin line of graphite«.
